Strauss's book 'The Fourth Turning' was written in 1997 and forecasted the economic crisis we now find ourselves in. His main thesis is that history reveals predictable cycles which can help people plan for crisis times.

I know people who read this book back when it was published, and actually took the advice in it to prepare for what Strauss calls the fourth turning which he predicted would come around the year 2005, give or take a few years. As Strauss describes it, this fourth turning is a period of major socioeconomic upheaval. Examples from the past are: The Great Depression; the Civil War; Revolutionary War.

He also makes the point that the generation born between 1982 - 2000 called the millennials will resemble the Great Generation which fought WWII and lived commendable lives in service to others. He pretty much says Boomer culture with its emphasis on self-fulfillment is on the way out.

These are interesting times we live in.
