Roy,

I certainly agree on the combining of the referenda. Having separate referena will not only cost the town unnecessary money, but it will likely discourage voters from coming out twice in succession. It is fiscally more responsible and saner to combine the referenda.

However, it is NOT time to move on. The Space Cadet movement is based upon lies and misrepresentations. Their claim that each house built in New Hartford adds 2.7 kids to the school system is just one of them. You were there last night. They were claiming that the Phillips property could be developed into 22 building lots. Considering that I have heard estimates that 80% of that property is wetland, and considering that any road built to that property would be a thousand feet long just to get to the property, and then the maximum after that would be 1000 feet, simple arithmatic tells you that with two hundred foot frontage the most lots that property could have would be 10.

I really dislike the Space Cadets. Not only are they a bunch of hypocritical fanatics (most are environmentalists, but not vegetarian, go figure) they lie consistantly and often, and they have no clue about fiscal responsibilty. They are the worst thing that ever happened to New Hartford, and they have to be stopped.

Roy, if we can stop them here and now, if we can put a halt to this fraudulant movement, we can not only save money, we can make our future more secure. Stopping them now will pretty much wipe them out. It is time for the town to speak.

We turned out in force for the vote on the teacher's contract. They still beat us. The demographics of this town are changing. Airhead Yuppies are moving in at an alraming rate. Suburban liberals. The worst kind of people we could attract (okay, well maybe Jamaican posses might be worse) They are trying to turn this town into something that it isn't and never was meant to be, a Yuppie paradise.

Roy, this is not the time to back off. This is the FIRST referendum we have ever had on a Space Cadet purchase. If they win this, we may never get another. You know how they pack town meetings and shout down their opposition. It is like we are dealing with Nazis.

It is time to do the right thing and defeat this proposal. The symbolic effect of that happening will hurt the Space Cadets beyond anything else we can do. And you know, damn well, this proposal IS costing the town money. We are taking a risk that the Space Cadets will be able to pay back the town over $200k and we are paying probably $50k in attorney fees and other costs. This is not a neutral proposal.

Come to the next Selectman's meeting. I think there the matter will either be sent to referendum (which I hope will happen) or to town meeting, where the Space Cadets are sure to stack the deck.

We have a real chance to stop the Space Cadets. Let's take it.
