Subject: Region 7 tells New Hartford to shut up and go with the flow!

New Hartford, having nearly 50% of the students attending the 4 town Regional 7 School District is being shut down by the other 3 towns and telling New Hartford that our 50% of the budget (8.5 to 9 million) of 17-18 million dollar budget is worth peanuts. They are saying that our votes do not count and to sit down, shut our mouths and accept the budget based on the hands shown by the three smaller towns who voted to nix the referendum. They have voted by a show of hands to tell New Hartford to just accept it and shut up. They are saying the people in New Hartford, especially the ones who work outside of the hand voting meeting window at the R7 School do not count. They are saying the window where the other three smaller towns can assure they selectively solicit their little group of people to come and raise their hands for the full budget, benefiting only them and rejecting the full democratic due process of the New Hartford residents and taxpayers who are funding this colossal budget that we do not count. We do not count and they are saying we do not count by these sneaky actions. Why is this happening? They say it is because of the $2,000 cost for the referendum. Is it possible that our own loss of 16 students has still netted a big increase from New Hartford? Why are they not telling everyone that the loss from New Hartford could be 18 students? Is it because of the way R7 is slamming through this budget before we get a look at it? Is it because of R7’s continued disrespect for the intelligence of the New Hartford people and the runaway costs associated to wasteful classrooms of eight students per class? Could it be the out of this world budget requests for so called improvements and repairs and overhauls and requests that get requested, never get spent and only get used for needs beyond the original expectations in their smoke and mirrors proposal. What is the real reason, what are the reasons we are being shutdown from voting? We are we still seeing huge student drops from New Hartford and yet they are running away with big salary increases, special interest spending and inflated bills to the town of New Hartford. This is a sneaky, underhanded, dark process by the minority on the backs of the majority. Mr. MacInnes (from what the morning newsprints) has stated his position and that of the town of New Hartford that we deserve and rightfully so since we are footing 50% of the entire bill, the right to vote at a referendum. If we do not get this, referendum, is it time for us to research separating out and have our own 7-12 middle high school? This is a time for everyone to go to town hall and sign these petitions. Time is of essence and this mess; even though the R7 BOE head says it is NOT negotiable is a blatant, unprofessional and illegal statement. It is negotiable and it is at the hands of us, the new Hartford taxpayer. Everyone, on behalf yourself, your neighbors, your own hard working taxpaying dollars, on behalf of your children and protecting the value of your education tax dollars, get to the town hall and sign the petition to invoke your personal right to vote at a referendum.
