When you hear the PWL Harlem Desire mix you Will know it's PWL. It's so good with the vocal stutters, Hammond's patented drum line (sorta like his work with Yell) A massive improvement on the original, which is great too. (NT) -- Randy, 06 Jun 2003, 22:30:24

I've just listened to the CafeRadio interview with Mike Stock vs Richard Allinson. There Mike claims that he's had 17 no.1's and the last one is "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted". I assume Mike is right about his own recordings, but as far as I'm concerned he had 13 no 1's with SAW and 3 with Robson and Jerome...."Unchained Melody", "I Believe/Up On The Roof" and "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted".....I can only add it up to 16. Shame 1: this isn't looking too hopefully, as it's the best PWL single since Steps, despite the unusual title.... Shame 2: Girls Aloud are all 'style' over substance, OTV are substance over personality with this single. Best bet is to have a look for a copy of "Ton of Hit" Songbook which features 81 SAW hits sheet music. Otherwise, most of the SAW albums had accompanying sheet music...but they are not easy to find nowadays. Can I just say that I was surprised how many non-SAW songs I liked on their new album. I thought it would be a case of skipping through the 'boring' songs. This was not the case. Tracks like 'Unhappy birthday' (guitars at beginning sound like a SAW riff), 'Baby don't say goodbye' (definetly re-mixed by Phil Harding-it's got that cool bassline) & 'I paralyze' all have that PWL ethos about them. I was just listening to 'All The Way' from the Football Crazy CD, and I really can't understand why this track wasn't a bigger hit. OK, so maybe it didn't really appeal to the hardcore football fans, but SAW could hardly do any wrong at the time, and yet this only got to Number 64?!?!?! Well they released 4 singles from the first album, first 3 with PWL mixes as you know, then a second album much later (a big flop), there was maybe one single from this album, and released a few years ago a cdsingle of Nuit de folie REMIX (not PWL this time), as this track was an extremely HUGE hit in France. I don't think a "remix" will do, to be honest. I hope they've re-recorded the vocals, as they are dreadful on the original version which is on their site. As for the song, I'm not sure if a move from cover versions (Love This) to novelty records (BTD???) is a good idea. The song is OK, IMHO, but will it push BTD into the "pink" corner? Fast Food Rockers are dire. Why are bigging them up? I rate them with all the other naff novelty bands, Power Rangers, Sindy, etc. I was so excited with Mike's return to the business but this is so POOR. On the other hand the OTV single is fab! One True Voice are the boyband from "reality tv" show popstars 2- the rivals. So I suppose they count as a novelty act. Rival act Girls Aloud are actually quite good, if spoiled slightly by the fact "the public" (rigged or what!!!!!) kicked out the "Diana Ross" of the band at the very last minute.
