Can I just add - Girls Aloud can't sing but they had better tracks and marketing. Also it's far easier for a girl group to gel together (just so bland) whereas for a boyband it's more difficult. Has anyone ever noticed how similar Give Me Up is to I Heard A Rumour?...I noticed it back in the 80's and believed I was the only one who imagined so. It will be VERY interesting to see what Stock can do with Natalie, and if he can make a hit out of her. As said many times b4 she is boring and unattractive at very best, as a star she is way below average. The best make over she could have is a brown paper bag carefully shoved on her head. There a big difference between being seen as 'not credible' and being totally facile. In its own way a lot of the early SAW material was ground-breaking. A lot of the later material was aimed fairly and squarely at the teen pop market and was never meant to be creible in an NME kind of way. Many of those records are remembered with fondness today. FFR have been categorically denied an appearance on this weeks Top of the Pops show. This is terrible considering their great chart position and what TOTP did to them last week. I think all broadcasters have a bit of a problem with the FFR single. Not because of it's "plastic pop" style, but more because of the free advertising it appears to give Pizza Hut, KFC & McDonalds. I can understand the BBC having a problem with it. (NT) -- Skev, 02 Jul 2003, 21:21:03

Actually, I'm glad TOTP won't be showing it. Let's be honest, nobody thinks this song is a classic. It's "Up there" with "Agadoo", "Birdie Song" etc. as a song that if you've heard a couple of times, you can remember it all too well. Didn't Black Lace go all sleazy and start releasing adult versions of their child-oriented anthems? Maybe FFR will become the Fast Rood Fockers for some future marketing strategy? Fresh have released another single "Feel My Rhythm", which was mixed by Harding/Curnow, but it's not very good. Other S/W gems of that era are: Suzette Charles's tracks, Nancy Davis' singles (especially the b-side "Never knew love like this before"), Worlds Apart's "Same Old Promises" (on "Together" album), Erik's "Devil & the deep blue sea" & "Looks like I'm in love again", Sybil's Good'n'Ready album... -- mobius, 12 Jul 2003, 6:37:33
