Subject: I have an aquaintence that works with geologists at Berkley. The USGS has been carefully monitoring the seismic activity for a really long time and they've definitely noticed an increase in the past few years. Whether that will mean a major quake or volcanic event is hard to say but they seem to be in favor of it. Certain places are long overdue for both. You can look at the patterns on earthquake.usgs.gov The hazard maps are pretty interesting.
