Good morning/afternoon. I am April Hollingsworth, your reigning Miss Georgia Forestry Queen. I had the honor of being crowned the 69th annual Miss Georgia Forestry Queen on June 21st, 2008. Being Miss Georgia Forestry is more than being a beauty queen. This is a real job which requires a real commitment and a lot of work.
For many years the Miss Georgia Forestry pageant was produced by the Georgia Forestry Association, then the Georgia Forestry Commission, and is now under the leadership of the Georgia Forestry Pageant and Educational Association which is under the direction of Mrs. Dianne Dominy. The very first Miss Georgia Forestry pageant was crowned in 1940, making the forestry pageant the oldest scholarship pageant in the state of Georgia. It was started to offer educational opportunities to young ladies while promoting Georgia’s leading industry, forestry. Although the pageant has changed ownership throughout the years, it still remains and stands for its original purpose and that is to educate our people, here in the beautiful state of Georgia, on the importance of the forestry industry. The pageant offers many opportunities and opens many doors for many talented young ladies throughout our state. It is one of the largest providers of scholarships to our young ladies here in Georgia. The $4000 scholarship that I will receive and the scholarships that the top 5 finalists receive will certainly help us to further our education.
The forestry industry is not only being represented on the state level, but is being represented on the county and national levels as well. There are 52 local forestry pageants in the state of Georgia alone, which means that there are 52 local counties that each have several queens to promote the forestry industry in their home towns. These county queens come together on the third weekend in June, in Tifton, Georgia and compete for the title of Miss Georgia Forestry. The contestants not only discuss forestry issues, but they also have a platform issue to speak on that is close to their heart. My platform is Mentoring through the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Organization. As part of that platform I encourage others to stand by me and make a difference in the life of child as a mentor.
The pageant educates the girls on the importance of forestry issues and teaches us commitment, organization, public speaking skills, as well as the importance of furthering our education. These are skills that we will carry with us throughout our adult lives. When my reign is completed, I will have made approximately 45 appearances throughout our beautiful state. I’ll never forget being at the Peanut Parade when a precious little boy asked me if I was really Smokey Bear’s Girlfriend. I smile because I know that I am reaching out to the youth of our state.
The Georgia Forestry Pageant and Educational Association also produces a Public Service Announcement that features Miss Georgia Forestry and covers the important aspects of the forestry industry. This PSA is played on television stations throughout our state.
There is an old Native American proverb that says we don’t own the environment, we borrow it from future generations. I believe the forests belong to every generation – past, present and future. Our challenge is to balance the economic, environmental and social values that are dividends we earn from living in a state with some the world’s most magnificent forests. In that light, I encourage private landowners to protect, improve, restore, and sustain private forests. Georgia’s private ownership contributes significantly to America’s clean water and air, wildlife habitat, recreational resources and timber supplies. Georgia’s Stewardship Program provides landowners with the information that they need in order to manage their forests for a variety of products and services.
Amendment 1 was passed this November by an overwhelming margin of Georgia voters. I want to take this opportunity to thank the members of this legislature for their support of this historic measure and the implementation of the Georgia Forest Land Protection Act of 2008. Amendment 1 will provide protection from development for many of the state’s large timberland properties.
To maintain Georgia’s forests for our future generations, we must educate and promote the importance of Wildfire Prevention. I speak and educate on human caused fires and what kind of devastation these fires can cause. Careless debris burning is the number one cause of forest fires. Everyone should know their area and always obtain a permit prior to burning. I also educate on the importance of forestry and the products obtained from forests. We all use products daily that come from our forests, products that we could not live without. Thank you for giving me the chance to represent Georgia’s leading industry. Together we can continue to educate Georgia on the importance of forestry.

The Miss Berrien County Forestry Pageant is scheduled for Feb. 7, 2009 at the brand new Berrien Elementary School in Nashville, Ga. starting at 7:00p.m. Applications are ready and can be obtained by contacting Mrs. Connie at cmluke2001@yahoo.com or by calling 229-686-7366 after 6p.m. (if no answer, leave a message). “Pageant Camp" will be held at the New Life Learning Center in Colquitt , Georgia . It will be held from 1p.m.-5p.m.



About “Pageant Camp”

In preparation for your upcoming pageants, we will be working with your child on a variety of skills that she will not only use for your upcoming pageant, but for all of them! We will work one on one on interview skills (certified judges will be there), stage presence, answering on-stage questions, and a variety of other things. If you have questions about any sort of pageant attire, you can bring it as well!



The cost of “Pageant Camp” will be $40 for 4 hours of pageant camp. We offer a Special Sister deal for 2 or more as well! This is a very good deal!!

I heard earlier from the queens. As you all know they traveled to Tampa today as special guests in Gasperilla Parade. They said there were around 50,000 people at this event. The queens road on the Gasperilla float which was a large pirate's ship. There television stations everywhere, even flying over them in helicopters. The parade was nationally televised. The parade was around 3 hours long. We won't to thank the Gasperilla Committee for inviting the Forestry Queens and especially having them as special guests on their float. They also provided them with beads to throw out during the parade.

Hey everyone im cleaning out my pageant closet! I have about 5 dresses that are for sale!
1. White Strapless Mink wood - All lace with a rhinestone (All AB Stones) belt at the hip area. There are rhinestones through out the dress as well that really makes the lace pop! SPARKLES on stage! Size 2/4
2. White Landa gown with straps. Chiffon fabric and the top is all AB stones. Size 2
3. Multicolored Halter Alyce Gown Size 2 - Colors are light pink, brown, light yellow,& hot pink with ab stones lining the halter and a AB broach at the hip area. Flows VERY nice on stage!
4. Orange Size 2 gown with straps and a rhinestone detail on them. It has sequins and stones all at the bust area and cascades down to about the waist area. There is rhinestone detailing at the bottom of the dress as well.
5. White Halter Claire’s Collection gown- Size 4- Wore at the 2008 State Forestry Pageant! It all rhinestones and the bottom is mermaid style with gorgeous lace material! Breath taking on stage!!

We are a little over five months away from the Miss Georgia Forestry State Pageant. Wow, how time flies!! We will be celebrating 70 years, the oldest running scholarship pageant in Georgia.

Right before state last year, we had some trivia questions and everyone that participated had so much fun! This year I decided to start our trivia questions a little early. Beginning in January through June, each month, I will post a trivia question here on our message board. The first one to email the answer to missgaforestry@yahoo.com will receive a free pass to their choice night of the Miss Georgia Forestry Pageant. Soooo watch the message board closely each month for the trivia questions!

Local Pageants are gearing up, you need to start making your plans on which pageants you want to compete in. There will not be any appointing this year, so if you want to compete at state forestry, you need to start competing in locals early!!

Leah Lewis, former Bulloch County Forestry Queen, was recently accepted into the entering fall 2009 class at Mercer Law School. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance in May 2008, and will graduate again from Georgia Southern University in May 2009 with a Master of Business Administration (MBA). As you all know, My Daddy passed away last Saturday, December 13th. I want to thank everyone for your kind messages posted here and on the guest books at the funeral home webpage and the Tifton Gazette webpage. I also want to thank everyone for the flowers, cards, and prayers. Please continue to pray for me and my family. We've had a rough year with the passing of my sister in March and now my daddy. I miss my daddy and my sister more than anyone will ever know.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year.

Teen Miss McIntosh Co Forestry Queen Stephanie Hill and Tiny Miss Appling Co Forestry Queen Trinity Saunders attended a meet and greet for US Senator Saxby Chambliss today held at Mudcat Charlie's on the Glynn/McIntosh County line. There they had their photos taken with Sen Chambliss as well as GA State Senator Jeff Chapman. They were also able to meet with many important people including local judges, the current and former mayors of Darien, and other local and state representatives. Good Going Girls!!!

The Berrien County Forestry Pageant will be held Feb. 7, 2009 at 7:00p.m. at the new Berrien Co. Elementary School located at 802 Middle School Circle next to the Middle school here in Nashville, Ga. The Statewide Christmas Party will be held on December 13, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. at the ABAC Dining Hall in Tifton. The attire is Casual Christmas Wear. The party is for Local Directors, Local Queens, State Queens, National Queens and former queens.
The fee is $15.00 per person, this includes the meal, decorations, DJ, and so forth. The fees must be mailed to Georgia Forestry Pageant, 3005 Clover Circle Tifton, Georgia 31794 by December 1st. Please include a self addressed stamped envelope for me to return your tickets in. This party is for all ages Babies through Mrs. The little girls can invite a friend, older girls can bring a friend or a date. Parents and siblings are welcome to. This is a family affair. We will have Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and the elves. Come enjoy a night of great food and dancing if you like, if you don't like to dance, just sit back and enjoy the music. Santa and Mrs. Claus along with the elves will be there to visit with the children.

We hope to see everyone on December 13th.

I want to thank everyone for supporting the Miss Georgia Hope Charity Pageant, we had a huge turnout for this pageant with all the girls doing a great job. The judges said it was very tough, the best they have seen in a long time. I am going to attempt to post the winners and will post the runnerups tomorrow when I get all my paperwork out. We are all very blessed to have each of you in our lives. The Forestry Pageant is blessed with not only beautiful and smart queens and contestants across the state, but some very loving and kind girls! You Forestry Parents are very blessed! Thank you for blessing us by sharing your daughters with us! We are truly blessed with some great Local Directors who truly love directing their local pageants and enjoy seeing the girls grow and prosper. During, this Thanksgiving, remember, and be thankful for all your blessings and spend time with family!
Family is very important, time goes by fast, and you can never make up for lost time.

I know I can speak for myself and for many, we have all been blessed with some great friendships through this pageant. I know times are hard for many and times may get harder, but always give thanks to God and he will see you through everything.

Lydia's mother in law is terminally ill. They are going through some hard times right now especially with the holidays approaching. This is also April Morris's grandmother and Savannah Morris's greatgrandmother. Lydia, please know that you all are in my family's prayers.

Prizes:
We will crown a queen for each age division. A Mini-supreme Queen will be crowned for the girl having the 2nd highest scores of the entire pageant and a Grand Supreme Queen will be crowned for the girl with the highest overall scores of the entire pageant. We will also crown a Popularity Princess, this will be the girl that has the most $1 votes. Divisional Queens will receive a beautiful crown, trophy, sash, and crowning pin. The Mini-Supreme Queen will recieve a beautiful crown, trophy, sash, crowning pin and gift. The Grand Supreme Queen will receive a beautiful crown, trophy, sash, crowning pin and gift. Popularity Princess will receive a beautiful crown, trophy, sash, & crowning pin. We will also have Holiday/Winter wear with enough interest (minimum of 10 girls). We will crown one overall holiday/winter wear winner. They will receive a crown, sash and crowning pin. The holiday/winter wear scores will not be included in the supreme scores!!All optional winners will receive beautiful ribbon engraved medallions. Runner-ups will receive a trophy and any girl not placing will receive a participation trophy. You must ENTER ALL OPTIONALS to be included in the Mini and Grand Supreme! A cash prize will be given to the Mini and Grand Supreme winners with a minimum of 30 contestants!

Wow, what a GREAT awesome day had by all! I would like to thank everyone for helping: Mama & Bam for watching the front door and holding the baby :), Aaron for helping clear everything away, and all of my GREAT moms for helping decorate the night before, we had a blast!!! Also, thanks to Mrs. Barbara and Katosha for judging, you did a GREAT job!! We had SO many new girls trying out a pageant for their first time, and I'm so proud of how great they all did!!! And thanks so much for all of the toys for Toys for Tots!! They are going to be so proud of all of your collection!! God Bless you all!

Colleen this fall volunteered to coach an 8-9 year old Co-ed Soccer team for the local county recreational league. Colleen had a blast, they tested her patients and skills but she did well and as you can see from the photos they loved their coach Colleen. Her team made it to the play offs and ended up getting 3rd place in the county!!! Way to go Coach!!!!

I just got off the phone with April our Miss Georgia Forestry and National Forestry Queen. April has decided on the theme for the 2009 Miss Georgia Forestry Pageant.

The 2009 69th Annual Miss Georgia Forestry Pageant presents Girls Gone Wild

The Teen and Miss contestants will wear animal print for the opening number.

What fun, this is going to be so much fun for the girls!

You need to start planning now on the local pageant that you plan on entering to compete at state. We already have applications in for the 2009 pageant.

We had 20 beautiful girls compete last night at the Worth County Forestry Pageant! Congratulations...you are all winners! Thank you to everyone who competed and came to support their favorite contestant. The judges had some tough decisions to make! Keri and Laci, you both did a great job emceeing! Jacey, Kylie, Jaden and Marlee you were such big girls helping backstage! I am going to miss having all of you as queens!

We do have to take the time to say how sorry we are for the loss of Kari Hobby! She was going to be in our pageant, but accidentally drown Friday night! She was only 18 months old! Please keep her family in your thoughts and prays!

By an overwhelming margin Georgia voters approved Amendment 1 on Election Day this past week. Passage of this historic measure, supported by leading agricultural, environmental, sportsmen and business organizations, will lead to the implementation of the Georgia Forest Land Protection Act of 2008! AWESOME! Amendment 1, which according to one source drew the largest number of votes of any candidate or amendment IN ALL OF GEORGIA HISTORY, will provide protection from development for many of the state's large timberland properties.

"Amendment 1 means that many landowners will be spared the decision to sell some or all of their property primarily due to an inability to pay property taxes," noted the Georgia Forestry Association's Steve McWilliams. "The people of the state have made it abundantly clear that they hold our forests in high regard." Yes Sir, Mr. Steve, we SURE DO!!!

Local Forestry Queens Stephanie Hill, Teen Miss McIntosh Co and Trinity Saunders Tiny Miss Appling Co Forestry assisted with the 3rd Annual Darien Fall Festival today in beautiful, historic downtown Darien. There they greeted people and manned the information booth for the City of Darien. While there, they also had some great photo opts with the Mayor of Darien, Kelly Spratt as well as Miss McIntosh Co Queen, Emily Durant. It was a beautiful day, and a perfect opportunity to promote Forestry and the Forestry Scholarship Pageant.

Kelsey Grubbs, 2006 US National Forestry Queen, was crowned Georgia Southern University's Homecoming Queen today at their homecoming game! She looked absolutely beautiful and we know that she will represent GSU as proudly as she did US National Forestry!
