Powerglide with brake/no reverse

i just installed my powerglide and had it freshened up.It has a TCI brake in it and 1st and 2nd gear work built no reverse.I activated the brake with 12v and still nothing.I can see the plunger activate but do not see it disengage.I removed the coil and did not see a spring in there.My other tranny had one but do not know if it is required.Any help is appreciated!!
