At least, to you suggestion that we will all remain silent. ;-)

To answer your question, yes, I do think some fiction goes on and on and on at such length that I begin to lose interest. One of the (many) wonders of the JB series was that, even though it's an extremely long work, I never found myself reading it just to keep current.

Now, there are a lot of fans of the cliffhanger style of writing. I've never been one of those people. But if you do like it, then the Going On Forever stories are fine.

On the other hand, if the author simply doesn't know how the story will end when she starts and just goes on until it gets to wherever it's going without much effort on her part beyond putting down the words, I find that hair-pullingly annoying.
