Snow Patrol was amazing. First, the crowd--this wasn't just a "let's stop by and see if they're worth listening to" kind of crowd. This was a crowd who knew the band and knew the songs (I don't know if they just picked them up somewhere or if they first started listening to them when SP came to South By Southwest last March) and they were psyched to be there. Their enthusiasm completely infected the band and they were going nuts--great sense of humor, these guys, and you could tell they were really getting a kick out of the audience. Oh, and they made some comment about how when they were here for SXSW they drank more than they ever had before and that was saying something, considering they were from Ireland. And the lead made a comment about how he shouldn't have had the jalapeno poppers before the show because they were bad for his digestion--poor guy, LOL. The last song they played before the encore was, of course, Run--and the entire audience was singing along. You could tell it completely blew them away. For the last few lines, the lead softened his singing so that it seemed like he was singing along with the crowd, not the other way around. And I completely see what you mean about playing mentally--their music isn't exactly hard core rock, but damn do they play like it is, banging their heads and jumping around on stage. What a great bunch of guys. :)

And next week, if you get a chance to push Lee into a crowd and watch him get trampled, don't even hesitate. ;)

I love the way SP appear to be wholesome boys but in reality they are a big bunch of drinkers who go mad on stage. When I saw them last, this bloke managed to scale the barriers and get 10 feet across to the stage, they helped him up and let him dance around and actually stopped the show when he leapt off the stage 10 feet ack into the crowd, most impressed with that they were!
