[> [> Well, just new kinds of crap. ;) Yeah, we had fun. She showed me where she worked (she works at a nursery and since she gets a discount, I ended up coming home with a new plant), we saw most of the sites in Albuquerque, drove down to White Sands National Monument (dunes of sand so white, it looks like snow--people even go sledding on it, LOL) and Roswell, watched the fireworks and the balloon glow with hot air balloons, nearly got sunstroke in the heat, so it was an adventure. :) -- Dhvana, 09:07:07 07/09/04 Fri

[> [> [> [> carry on up here:0) Yeah with the hotels, the site I was looking on is in £ and I didn't realise it at the time so Radisson and HIlton etc really are a bit too expensive - twice the amount of the other ones. I don't mind them for a couple of nights but not for 10 - rather spend my money on fun things!! I gotta make a decision here and soon!! I don't mind walking a couple of miles or busing it -- vx, 09:26:47 07/09/04 Fri

[> [> [> [> [> For walking distance, go with the Holiday Inn or Wellesley. For bus--the La Quinta. And if push comes to shove and you don't like where you end up, we'll just move you someplace else. :) -- Dhvana, 09:36:49 07/09/04 Fri

[> [> [> [> In the summer? As little as possible. We're a pretty casual city--anything comfortable goes. We're not formal at all in any sense of the word and we've got such a wide variety of people, everything is acceptable. -- Dhvana, 09:38:25 07/09/04 Fri

so its alright to wear shorts and stuff? I'll have to remember to bring a jacket or long sleeved top for going inside - aircon is always too cold for me.

Anyting you want me to bring? I've a few magazines and things for you already.

[> [> [> [> [> [> You'd be mad not to wear shorts, it's so fricken hot out. We all do. The air-conditioning usually isn't too bad, but I normally bring a jacket to movie theatres and such. -- Dhvana, 09:47:04 07/09/04 Fri

[> [> [> [> As for Roswell, it was disappointingly normal. I mean, there were two blocks on Main Street dedicated to aliens, but the rest of the city was just a city. Still, those two blocks were fun--they had a window display competition going, and the old-fashioned streetlamps had black alien eyes painted on them. -- Dhvana, 09:44:46 07/09/04 Fri

It's the stars that are the most amazing. New Mexico is fairly empty and oh my god--at night, it is pitch black out and you can see billions of stars--including the Milky Way, satellites, and even shooting stars (saw one while I was out there!). My sister and I pulled off the side of the road with the sole purpose of looking at the stars--it's so dark though, it's creepy (you cannot see anything around you at all--someone could be walking right and front of you and you wouldn't know it), and then a coyote started howling and yipping and we got completely freaked out so we rushed back into the car, locked the doors and got the hell out of there. We're wusses, LOL, but it was beautiful anyway.

[> [> [> [> [> Stars? What are they? The pollution and street lighting make it near on impossible to see stars here. Even at home, its not like it used to be. Er not too sure about the darkness though, that would be way too scary for me -- vx, 10:07:50 07/09/04 Fri

[> [> [> [> [> [> Yeah, we don't get stars here, either. At least, not in central Texas. Maybe out west, where there are fewer towns. I was terrified of the dark when I was a kid--I was practically a teenager before I made myself learn to sleep without a nightlight, so being surrounded by all that darkness was more than a bit scary. I don't know that I could sleep in that--I've got a security floodlight outside my window, and the highway not far off, so it's never dark. I'd probably need some sort of light. -- Dhvana, 10:26:19 07/09/04 Fri

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> I'm the other way, light keeps me awake! I even have to cover up the digital numbers on the vcr in the bedroom and on the clock by the bed. I used to be a bit scared of the dark after a scary movie - if I had to go to the loo in the night, I'd drag the light cord as far as it would go towards the bedroom and then run light hell. -- vx, 10:29:56 07/09/04 Fri

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> LOL--scary movies tend to have that effect on people. I was like that for a while--having to dangle a sock over the light on my stereo's clock because it was too bright, but I've had to get used to a bit of light, so now I don't know what I'd do without it. -- Dhvana, 10:37:25 07/09/04 Fri
