Hello John

Can't remember you but the sergeant (McAdam) you mention I recall. He had been at Arnhem...rather a large bloke.

I joined at the R.A Depot in 1945, then to the RMA and on to Cambridge Barracks.

We were short of fuel in the cold winter of '46 and used to go out on raiding parties to gather in anything we could find.

I think I was in E Troop at the RMA along with Den Farmer, Jim davies, Jimmy Armes, Len Jones etc. The Officer was called Cunningham.'Doggy' Hayes, of course, was still the Permanent Staff BSM. I also recall a Lance Bombardier Wilkinson (who had been involved in the rescue of prisoners at Belsen) joining the permanent staff and rapidly becoming promoted to Trumpet Major.

I didn't realise, until I contacted Ken Thomas, that Cambridge Barracks had been occupied by Boys' Battery in 1943, moving later to the R.A. Depot. ( I noticed you had been in contact with him and have discovered that too.)

Did you go on the Royal Artillery Tattoo touring the North of England in 1946? Jim Davis, Tony Atkins (then a Boy Sergeant)and myself were on that.

It has just dawned on me that I probably do know you! We (possibly) were in the same barrack room in Cambridge Barracks. I mustered in February 1947. A chap named Hall was the Boy BSM then. He took over from 'Sticky' Poole, who in turn succeeded Bob Guy. The latter got to be a Lt. Colonel but died a few years ago.I hope I am not the only one left still around.

I attended the Farewell to Woolwich Parade in May last year. It was quite an event, but miserable and cold weather, which rather spoiled things.

As a result of contacts there, I have now joined the India and Wartime (1151 -1157) Boys' Batteries Association and will attend their re-union in May this year.

You have chosen a good country to settle in. We were there about ten years back - flew about to all the usual tourist spots. Loved Sydney and Cairns.

Happy New Year to You and Yours,

All the Best, Harry (1157487)

Trust all is well with you.
