Hi Allan, First answer I've had on this forum! As you say, great memories. Another of Arthur Hyam's escapades was when he fell asleep whilst smoking and burned a great hole in his pyjamas. When he faced Freddie Shrimpton on a fizzer and was asked how come he wasn't burned, he omitted to say that he was wearing vest, shirt and pullover under his pyjamas! I won't mention the time he and I went AWOL, walking to St. Asaph in the middle of the night and buying a one way ticket each at the station, me to Stoke and he to Worcester. (Oops! I've mentioned it!) Bdr. Harding came with a Boy Nco from his Troop to fetch me back and whilst my mother was giving them a fry up for tea, Bdr. Harding kept looking at a photo of my father, who had been a Sgt Major. Finally he asked my mother if she had ever lived in Woolwich. When she said "Yes" he said "Well my name's Harding!" "Bobby, or Billy?" said mother. "Bill" he said. Small world! He and his brother were playmates of my elder sister when she was about ten years old. I was only four then. What memories! Over half a century ago, but still as fresh as ever. Cheers, Jack.
