Mt Vernon is just miles from DC. In no way is it a long trip. A little research on real locations comes in handy. In other words, Bellasario goofed by having Blacksburg basically a suburb of DC when in actuality it is a good four hour drive or about 200 miles from the District of Columbia.
Mt Vernon is less than half an hour from the Capital, and from what I remember of the area, having visited about ten years ago while on a tour is in the outskirts of DC.
