our fs is afraid of us:(

we just adopted a 1 yr old flying squirrel from a guy selling him, we named him Skippy. we love him but he is so frightened of us. will he ever get used to us and if so how long do you think it would take. and if anyone has any clues that might help, that would be wonderful too!
