(Mariette, I'd call this behaviour hormonal, from what you describe ...). You may find yourself having to do some remedial socialising - Wingnut cannot be allowed to be too aggressive (biting, etc.), but I'd say the 'humping' is not necessarily a 'bad' thing (if I'm not mistaken, Our Intrepid Hero, Chuck, was a habitual humper, before Mishi became his focus ... LOL!).

Running in the same 'circle' is fairly common behaviour, even in a large room (my babies all do it). It's actually a behaviour that helps a flyer develop balance, and good depth perception, and helps them to know just how much thrust they need, to reach a target landing pad. It's even done in the 'wild', from what I've been advised. But, it's a good idea to keep Wingnut flexible about cage changes. Moving the cage 'furniture' will help him to change the 'rut' path he might be developing. Many flyer fanciers provide a wrodent wheel, for their flyers. That might be an idea, for Wingnut.

One way to get a good look at a shy flyer's 'personals' is to do so while they are on a cage. The 'luggage' photos of a flyer should give you an idea of Wingnut's development stage. Just Click Here ...

I don't visit here often, so stop in at Flying Squirrel Fancier or at For Flyers Only when you want a quicker answer, and I highly recommend you join The National Flying Squirrel Association, too. Their message board is a wealth of information!
