Subject: Kidnapping

Just recently our little Peanut had a tramatizing experience. My co-worker went into her cage to show a visitor how cute she was. Well there was not peanut there and no signs of her. The cage was all closed up and the tomatoes that she had been given the night before were gone. We were frantic looking for her and then I remembered someone saying that they will go where they are comfortable and familar with. Well obviously she could not get back into her cage but her bonding pouch was on the shelf. Sure enough there she was, near what was left of her pouch. She had chewed it to pieces trying to get in. She wouldn't let us catch her because she was soooo scared. She bit one person and finally I put her nesting box out and she ran right in. She didn't come out for a whole day! I don't know if someone tryed to hold her or kidnap her and she got loose. I don't know where her tomatoes went because she never never never eats all of the tomatoes and she had a lot. THey weren't in her cage or on the shelf anywhere. It's a mystery.
Well, not my cute cuddly Peanut that used to come sit in my lap all day won't even let me get her from her nesting box. She BITES and not a little warning bite that she has done now and again but a BITE! I don't know what to do for the poor little girl and I am not scared for my fingers too! Any suggestions out there? She'll take things like pecans and fruits from my hands but that's about it!

Give her a few days to settle down and let her come to you. Take the nest box in the bathroom and start the bonding process again. Let her come out on her own and when she gets near you, offer a favorite treat. Don't attempt to hold her in any way ... let her take the intitative toward you.

Is there any way that you can take her home with you at night? She needs to feel secure and be able to trust you again. I would suggest that you just hold her nest box and open the top and talk to her for a few days then next stept would be to just see if she will let you rub her while she is in the box. Offer her food and let her know that your not going to harm her. I hope she comes around again to being your sweet little peanut. Please keep us up on her.

How is Peanut doing? Much better, I hope. Did you ever find out anything more about what happened to her?
