Hi Julie: I've been out of acorns for a while. The last batch you sent (bless your heart) had thawed out and spent too much time in the mail process and were on the edge of getting rotten when I got them. Rockie had a few (loved them) and I had to toss the rest to the outside squirrels (loved them to).

I guess unless I can get some that are not frozen she'll have to wait until fall. Chestnut season is over also here and I can no longer find them in the supermarket. I'll have to check the orchards on line.

You reminded me Julie to look on Ebay for acrorns. I found a supplier once. I'll keep you posted !!!

Thank you so much for all of your kindnesses!!!

>WEll... crap! I hate that. I never thought about the frozen /wet thing. I guess they would mold pretty fast. I hope mine in the freezer are still ok. She seems to like them... If I have as many this year as I did last year I will be sure to send to you then when they are fresh and not frozen. Tell Rockie I am sorry....:(

Hi Julie: I have another plan for this fall as well as the original plan of collecting what I can from up here. My brother lives in North Georgia and he was insulted when he found out I didn't ask him to scout around and gather nuts for me. He's bragging about all of the nut and acorn trees he has down there so this coming Fall there should be a bounty big enough for Rockie and all of her friends! I'm sending my little brother nut hunting and gathering!!!

I harvested lots of acorns last year and have been successful in thawing them "gently" by placing them outdoors in the sunshine on a cookie sheet for a while until they are completely dry. They can then be served, shipped or saved safely. I am sure it would also work if they were placed in the oven on a very low temperature until they are completely dry. The mold maker is the moisture.........once it is gone the acorns are as they were when they were harvested.

> Well.... now next time I guess I will know! Such a shame too because most of the ones I froze were nice big fat green ones that they seem to love!!! Maybe this fall we will all have plenty of acorns!!!!

We harvested green acorns last year and have just pulled them out of the freezer and our three are going nuts over these frozen green acorns. They won't even look at any of their other foods.

Rockie loves them frozen also. The problem arose when Julie tried to ship Rockie up a bunch of acorns that she had frozen. They thawed en route and by the time they got here they were not so edible.

Thank you again Julie for your good heart and hopefully this fall we'll have a bumper crop PLUS down there and up here!

>I never thought of that.... it makes sense tho. Laura, you are just going to have to move South! Maybe this will be the year for all of us to have plenty. I am SO glad I read on here last year to collect and freeze them. Sure is nice now money wise and Lord knows Scarlett likes the nice fat green acorns better than most anything. Avacodos and oranges are her next fav I guess.
