(Skittles could make a life in S. Texas, Kitty. If there are grey squirrels ...) in the area, and perhaps some live oak, then Skittles might be able to find everything she needs to live. Flying squirrels can be found in Texas - are you sure your area does not have a native population?

As for Skrat, while some flyers who were never hand tamed never accept humans as companions, most do. It takes much patience, and a regular allotment of time just for the flyer. Using a small room, where the flyer can be allowed to 'free range' while you just sit in the room with him, can help. Bathrooms work especially well. Allowing the flyer to climb on towels, and offering him some pecans or other treats, can do much to improve his confidence in you. Good luck!

Thank you for the support.

I hope Skittles is free and safe, mostly I hope she is happy. I am sad but I feel better believing she is happy. As far as I know there are no flying squirrels here but we do have grey squirrels and plenty of live oaks. There are fliers northeast of where I live but it is a several hours drive.

Skrat is very curious about me and my family so that gives me hope. I si next his cage a night while I watch TV. Each night he seems to come out a little more to see what I am doing. If I open the cage he hides for 20-30 minutes even if I am absolutely still and quiet. I am patient though. I know we are both sad without Skittles; we can get through this together.
