Subject: He's Eatting!!!!

Hey all,
He's eatting on his own! Not drinking though. His nose gets in the way and he ends up inhaling it. I may need to give him a water bottle. I still need to feed him several times a day because he wont take more than 1cc of formula and because he isnt drinking on his own yet it's the only form of liquid he gets. But he spent most of the night and morning chewing and eatting nuts and fruits.
Is there any food he cant have? And do these guys squeeze through places like a mouse can? Do I need to worry about the under side of doors or small holes? I have a small hole in my radiator that is plugged with steel wool. I dont want to loose him. I have 2 Mini pinchers that would love to be unattended with him.

(Glad to hear your fella is eating well. Even 'tho he's not ....) doing well with drinking, I would still leave a small water dish in his quarters. A heavy glass ashtray works especially well, as it will not tip easily. You can offer formula for as long as he will take it. I keep a flyer's diet simple, and offer just a good quality bird mix (with sunflower - oilers and stripes - , pumpkin, corn, millet), a good supply of hard shelled nuts (I use hazelnuts, mostly, but also offer some English walnuts and Georgia pecans), and fresh fruit that grows in the 'normal' range of a flyer - apples, pears, peaches, berries, grapes, oranges - basically, a bit of whatever I'm having myself - but only fresh, not dried or canned. If I'm having something that has cultivated mushroom, I will offer one cut up to the flyers. Fresh veggies, too, are offered - broccoli, peas, greenbeans, squash. Just a bit of whatever I'm having. One way to have a good variety is to visit your local store salad bar.

Flyers can fit through the smallest of holes - and often squeeze under doors that do not fit flush to the door jam. Flyer proofing a room is a must, for safety. Houses are full of dangerous places, for a flyer. Indeed, I also recommend the safety plugs for electric outlets, and it's a good idea to cover any window screens with hardware cloth.

The pinschers would make sport of chasing your flyer, and one snap would kill him. Any terrier type will grab a flyer before you have a chance to even see it happen - it's just the nature of a dog.
