Camael is the regent of Tuesday. As ruler of Mars, the planet of fiery passion and war, he has an ambivalent role in angel lore with both dark and light characteristics ascribed to him. As Samael, he has ever been equated with Satan, while Enoch describes him as one of God's favorite angels. This conflicting picture is reflected by the traditional astrological image of Mars as a malign body at conflict with the other planets. The negative aspects of Mars include ruthlessness, destruction, and brutality. Its positive aspects are determination and willpower, the courage and passion necessary to survive and flourish in the flux of chaos.
As individuals we are engaged in a struggle for self-determination. The self-assertion this requires can create conflict. Camael teaches us how to cope with conflict, helping to transmute competitive aggression into gentle cooperation. He can also provide us with strength and fortitude when we are the victims of aggression. He will not help us slay our enemies, but he can help protect us from them and show us the lessons they teach us. Camael is a great guide and protector. He provides us with the courage and determination to overcome all the obstacles that we have set in our paths.
Camael can be visualized as a great figure in red, emitting green sparks. His symbol is an upright sword. He should be petitioned or invoked on a Tuesday. Camael responds swiftly and petitions should be burned within seven days. During this period look out for signs of consent. Even slightly alarming experiences involving his correspondences, such as fire and steel knives, may be a positive sign.
