I'm not sure where your getting your information from on the English Bulldog breed but it does take close to $1000.00 to bring these pups into the world...because most bulldogs cannot have pups on their own they have to have a C-section and thats not including ultrasounds, pap smears, putting the dog out (that takes a special medication or it can kill them) checking the pups, shots and tail croping. I can give you the number to my vet and you can ask him yourself if you don't believe me. Most breeders that ask $1000.00 for their pups are just breaking even because bulldogs aren't suppose to leave their mothers until their 10 weeks old. Another reason that they are an expensive breed is because they don't normaly breed on their own either you have to get them artifically inseminated. That is $350.00. Bulldogs aren't known for big litters sometimes litters range from 1 to 4 pups..so take the total cost and divide that into each pup lets say you only have 2 pups you have $675.00 in each pup already or even 3 pups is still $450.00 in each pup. Good breeders aren't looking to make a buck off their pups some even lose money. My bullie got an ear infection and by the time I left the vets office I dropped $100.00. And the breed also has special problems that you have to be prepared for that does cost a lot of money to fix such as "Cherry Eye" or if they have hip problems. They are also very prone to heat stroke I had to put central air into my home for my bullie they can have a heat stroke in 80 degree weather in less than 10 minutes. So before saying breeders are trying to rip people off and make a profit you need to do some homework on the breed.
