First of all there is some strange assumption that qualifications and suitability are considered in an election in Newburgh. It is a combination of some very unrelated and irrelevant things because of the few people who make the effort to vote. Just look at the five sitting on our Council... or even most of the candidates who have ever run for office here.

Second thing is both judicial candidates conducted themselves in a childish manner unbecoming of the position they were vying for during their campaigns. I was in court several times while the losing candidate was a judge in Newburgh and was appalled at what I witnessed. Maybe it's par for the course- I haven't been in court that much to know any better- but I was more than a little disappointed at the language used and the manner in which she conducted herself.

No one had the luxury of seeing Kulkin in action on the bench- and I had not been to any Council meetings when he was on the Council. The only story I heard was the coke incident with Carey- and having seen Carey in action I was unconvinced that it wasn't possibly warranted.

With Jonathan Jacobsen by his side- one of the few election law experts in the State, Kulkin probably pushed election law as far as possible knowing full well that anything he did wouldn't reverse the election.
