What ever happened to good old girls
With names like Ruby and Opaline
And Mavis and Ethel and Rosie and Sue
Betty Lou, and Rachel, and Imogene?

They knew how to cook and clean and sew
And make a house a home
Rising early and working til late
Working their fingers to the bone.

Nowadays the names are strange
To this old country boys ear
I can't imagine snuggling with
A Jackson or Madison or Greer.

But I'll get over it
And I'll learn to just make do.
But I hope that I never hear
Of a boy named Linda or Sue!
