Subject: Fijian Studies open letter

I attach a letter which Dr. Biman Prasad, Associate Editor of Fijian Studies, had sent to the Fiji Times in response to claims by Senator Litia Cakobau that by using the terms 'Fijian' in the journal name, ethnic Indian academics were robbing the identity of indigenous Fijians.

The letter was published today (16 Dec) but without a crucial sentence - "Many USP academics, including the former Vice Chancellor of the USP, the late Mr. Savenaca Siwatibau, also lent their intellectual support to the journal."

This sentence would have showed how shallow Litia's criticisms were.... etc. The omission, I believe, was deliberate, and is a part of the FT agenda to keep manufacturing and stirring racial strife.
Regards.
