Gladiator Crowe pays surprise visit to Limerick

MOVIE star Russell Crowe paid a hush hush visit to the pub the late screen legend Richard Harris used to frequent on his visits home to Limerick.

Whenever Mr Harris, who died on Friday October 25, returned to his native Limerick he could usually be found enjoying the craic in Charlie St George's Bar on Parnell Street.

And tipplers in the city centre bar were given one hell of a surprise last (Wednesday) night when Russell Crowe wandered in for a drink.

The star of such films as A Beautiful Mind and Gladiator is staying in Dromoland Castle for a few days, prompting speculation he is in Limerick to attend a memorial service for Richard Harris - the two men shared the screen when they appeared alongside each other in the box office smash hit, Gladiator, and Crowe was the only non-family member invited to attend the funeral of the Limerick actor in London last week.

He told people last night that he was in Limerick for a visit after promising Richard Harris that he would visit the city at some stage.

It is believed the New Zealand-born actor also paid visits to Nancy Blake's Bar on Denmark Street and Ted's Nite Club on O'Connell Street.
