Great to finally have this set-hard to believe that John Foy created the year(s) plus delay on the artwork as everything else seems dransfield kuepper(lovely nod touch babe in arms). Initial impressions are a sometimes mixed up ed guitar sound (contrasting strongly with an almost non ed existent swiss show circa 83 which is my fav unofficial where pete walsh's bass reaches grange 98 status; pulsating, lyrical all that is good within sum of parts). But as this is intermittant, and just as liner notes say the analogue aim was to be maintained, this has well been an overall achievement. Pottinger's directional over chronology listings are every fans Compo tape dream come true and swallow of minor quibbles work, putting aside worn vinyl masterpieces such as law of nature (espec. a side) aside. Good to see ed and jeff jotting inspirations/precedents but i was ultimately looking for a more theoretical analysis of the zeitgeist of the times. Perhaps i have seen/ heard most of all this before which leads me away from the raw necessity of this music THEN-when in a Frankie goes to Hollywood party i threw the History V1 on, because it was unfortunately, and got in a fight over/under Collapse because i was being cruel but fair in a world that wasnt. This compilation is about me growing up and over the 80's oz cultural swale, blown about those years as Janine ripped a pick you off the floor encore, as the teutonic better half saint revealed an empire worth dying for, as the whole world pursalted in all its spice and shit glory.
