Subject: European Tour Report

I just got back from Stockholm to see the second show of Ed Kuepper / Jeffrey Wegener's European tour to support Nick Cave on May 17

I met Ed and Jeff outside the venue when Nick Cave was sound checking. When I asked what they played the previous night in Oslo, Ed was struggling to remember. He explained that the jetlag was catching up with him. He said that a comment was made about how long they played in Oslo, but notes that usually it is because they play too long - this time they were 5 minutes short of the alloted 45 mins. They played La Di Doh, Little Fiddle, Miracles, Rainy Night, The Laughing Clowns and Eternally Yours, plus one more that Ed cannot recall. Surprisingly, they didn't play Honey Steel's Gold, Everything I've Got Belongs To You or Hang Jean Lee which seem to be staples of recent gigs.

Ed was kind enough to get me into the venue to see them do a long soundcheck. Full songs performed include Fever, Cypress Grove Blues, Demolition (twice), Rue The Day, Sam Hall, plus incomplete versions of Electrical Storm, Real To Me, and some short parts from Skinny Jean, Hang Jean Lee and Yellow Dog. It was odd watching the soundcheck while a bunch of road crew and security staff were playing football in front of the stage.

Ed and Jeff took the stage in Stockholm at 7:45. Although it was clear that many were not familiar with the band, there were some in the crowd who knew the songs. Ed made a good impression when he offerred a box of chocolates to a crowd member at the beginning of the gig. His songs were well received by the crowd, especially a superb version of Eternally Yours. Hopefully this tour will help promote his album which Ed suggests is having some distrubution problems. Songs played in Stockholm were:
- Hang Lean Lee
- Little Fiddle
- Rainy Night
- Miracles
- Cypress Grove Blues
- The Laughing Clowns
- Demolition
- Eternally Yours

Many thanks to Ed and Jeff for taking the time out to chat, and for the great performance.
