Subject: Please help stop this from happening!

After hearing this on the news tonight I just knew that I needed to try to get the assistance of as many people as possible to stop this from happening.

I am listing below the story that ran this evening on the 6 & 11 o'clock news in Central West Virginia.

Please take the time to contact the Marion County Commissioners & make them understand why they need to fund this group.

Humane Society

After the Marion County Commission cut off funding to the Humane Society Friday, officals are weighing their options at the shelter. Folks there are doing all they can to prevent euthanizing the animals. But with virtually no funding and a small staff, it might be too late to save them all. "We're going to try to stay open as long as the money holds out," said Lisa Fluharty, director of the Humane Society. But without the $40,000 the County Commission usually supplies the shelter, the money won't hold out long. And now the county wants to hire a dog warden and send stary animals to Harrison County's shelter. "In August 326 animals were euthenized, here, we sent that many on rescue," said shelter worker, Bryan Egress. "They have a hard time with their population in Harrison County, I can't imagine it with ours on top of it. If we take animals to Harrison County, hundreds of animals will be dying and taken to the landfill," said Fluharty. The Humane Society is petitioning the County Commission. They hope to get enough signatures to reverse the Commission's decision to stop funding the shelter. And folks in Marion are afraid people who lose their dogs won't think to look in Harrison County... where it's policy is to kill the animal if it isn't adopted within five days. "I don't think the people of Marion County will stand for that," said Egress. But these guys are standing up for their beliefs and keeping their doors open until they're forced to shut down.
The shelter needs your help to stay open. Right now they think they can fund themselves for about a year, but after that it depends on you. So, if you'd like to make a donation or volunteer your time to the Humane Society, call 304-366-5391.
