Subject: I've found her...

'On Monday night the Breast Cancer Research Foundation held its gala at the Waldorf-Astoria, and the theme was hot pink: pink dresses, pink tablecloths, pink jelly beans on the tables. And, indifferent to the damage it might do to his macho image, ELTON JOHN performed in a pink shirt with pink silk on his jacket.

LIZ HURLEY was the mistress of ceremonies, and we found her seated at a table with ARUN NAYAR. Those who rely on Boldface for their gossip will certainly be out of the loop here, so a little background: Mr. Nayar, recently split from his wife, VALENTINA PEDRONI, is Ms. Hurley's boyfriend.

How recently he was happily married and how recently he has been Ms. Hurley's boyfriend, and for how much time these two things overlapped: these are the questions that plague gossip columnists through the night so that you, Dear Reader, can sleep soundly.

In the meantime, Mr. Nayar and Ms. Hurley have reportedly been engaged, then not engaged, then maybe engaged, until at some point everybody forgot about them and started fixating on BECKHAM and POSH SPICE.

But back to the benefit.

"DONATELLA made this for me for tonight's party," Ms. Hurley was saying about her hot pink dress with the plunging neckline.

And the jewelry?

"It's CHOPARD,"

Yours?

"No,'' she said. "I wish."

Soon Ms. Hurley was called to do her mistressing of the ceremonies, leaving Mr. Nayar to recount a recent bobsledding accident. We sat down with him and passed the time with talk of bobsledding accidents, of the night's event, of the foundation. Then we asked how the two lovebirds had met.

"Now you are getting personal," he said.

Personal? Us? Personal? Please.

We ate some of the pink jelly beans. And engaged in a little small talk. And then: So, uh, you met at the grocery store?

"No."

But we're close, right?

"No," he said. "At a dinner party."

Your friends?

"No," he said. "Friends of Elizabeth's."

A sort of pre-orchestrated thing?

"No," he said.

Scintillating, scintillating journalism, but Mr. John began playing and we were propelled back to our table by the power of the music.'

That's the latest on our Elizabeth, I think. :)
