I haven't had a lobster in more years than I can remember. I used to love lobster when I was a kid, but nothing tastes as good now as when you were a kid.

Anyway, I was walking through the Pathmark at Ventnor Plaza and I noticed these fully cooked red lobsters sitting on ice. They weren't frozen, they were just cold, like lobster cocktail. They only cost $5.00 each, so I bought one.

You're supposed to take it home and heat it up but I didn't want to wait that long, so, I ate the lobster tail in that area where you wait for the buses. It tasted really bland. I let the seagulls have the shell to pick at but they didn't even want it.

I ate the claws later. They weren't much better.

  • Miss North Carolina -- talkonline, 08:37:28 11/23/02 Sat

So I've been kind of following the MISS WORLD Pageant since Rebekah Revels, the EX-Miss North Carolina was "named" as the representative for The USA. Revels was the gal whose ex sent the email to MISS AMERICA, about taking nude pics....

I say named, because I have not been able to find any info. relating to an actual "contest"-just saw something that said that she had been asked by MISS WORLD to "be" MISS USA WORLD....

The first hint of trouble was where many of MISS WORLD the contestants said that they would BOYCOTT the event, as a show of solidarity, protesting the "death by stoning" sentence, imposed on a Nigerian woman accused of adultry.

..... I believe that panties were un-bunched when,NIGERIA promised NOT to kill the woman untill AFTER the show.

    The contestents arrived in NIGERIA.

Then 2 days ago, Nigerian muzlims became aroused. They asked WWMD?-(what would muhammed do?)..The question was answered in the official local Nigerian press with a letter to muslims saying something like mohammad would see the women as some kind of harem and no-doubt choose some for himself.

Unfortunately for MISS WORLD-THAT backfired and yesterday according to REPORTS (no pictures yet? WHY)....500 were hurt and ONE HUNDRED PEOPLE WERE KILLED in the MISS WORLD RIOT.

As of today, reports say that MISS WORLD will be held in LONDON.

  • Medical dilemma - quite long -- rujane, 08:50:10 11/20/02 Wed
I was told this week that one well-known local surgical specialist (I won't name the doctor or specialty) has seen his malpractice premiums go from $90,000 to $140,000 in 2003. Another one is seriously considering closing his practice and moving to the Midwest where the rates are much lower. Whatever anti tort reform lawyers think about who is responsible (they say it's the insurance companies, their villain of choice now that they've finished working over the medical community; medical professionals say it's largely due to suits brought, even those where there is no award). Unless the anti tort reformers are ready to practice medicine, it doesn't matter what they think. What does matter is that doctors, hospitals, other practitioners (midwives, physician's assistants, etc) are increasingly deciding they can't practice any more and dropping out. Consider the following, excerpted from several 2002 articles:
    In New Jersey:
A group of seven North Jersey retinal specialists have stopped providing care to premature infants, citing the state's overly broad statute of limitations for minors. The practice, which treats retina problems found in premature babies that often can lead to blindness, previously was insured by PHICO but could not find another carrier in the open marketplace when PHICO went into receivership. The state's guaranty fund for PHICO customers covers the practice for claims up to $300,000 - clearly inadequate for New Jersey’s tort system.
    In West Virginia:
A state medical society survey that asked practicing West Virginia physicians about liability rates found that 40% are considering moving to a different state, and 30% are considering retiring. "Fears of lawsuits as well as the huge increases in premiums are creating a terrible work environment," said John Holloway, MD, West Virginia State Medical Society president.
    In Texas:
Skyrocketing medical malpractice insurance costs are forcing many doctors to abandon care of high-risk patients - including children, the elderly, and those with cancer, heart disease and many other chronic health problems - while others have been forced out of business all together.
    In Pennsylvania:
Doctors in Bucks County and other parts of southeastern Pennsylvania are moving out of the state and to other counties or scrambling to get liability insurance because of skyrocketing medical malpractice insurance rates. The high rates, which doctors say are threatening their careers and patient care, are caused in part by high jury awards in the Philadelphia area. Some surgeons have been unable to obtain malpractice insurance except for policies with five- or six-figure premiums -- even if they've never been taken to court. In Delaware County, about 44 doctors at the height of their careers left the state last year or no longer practice clinical medicine.
    In Washington State:
An Olympia internal medicine physician might be the first South Sound casualty of soaring malpractice insurance costs. Dr. Sarah Reade has closed her practice and it will remain closed unless she finds substantially better malpractice rates, she said. Reade, who treats about 500 patients, was told Wednesday her malpractice insurance costs would more than quadruple -- from $5,300 a year to $30,000 a year. "I don't have it. I have to close my practice," said Reade, who opened her internal medicine practice in Olympia two years ago. Reade has the same problem. Because of contracts with health insurance companies, "I'm not allowed to raise my rates to reflect the cost of care," she said. Reade will apply for malpractice insurance from two other companies, and might re-open her practice if she finds insurance at a rate she can afford, she said. If not, she'll look into consulting or possibly working for an hourly wage at a clinic. "I've just spent 12 years getting trained," she said. "I've had patients call and say, 'You can't quit, you're my doctor.' "

    In Massachusetts:
When Swadesh Mullick, M.D., learned that her medical liability insurance premium was going up, she was convinced that her insurer, ProMutual, must have gotten the numbers wrong. The premium for her obstetrics practice was more than 25 percent higher than the year before.“First, I called and asked, ‘Are you sure this is correct?’” said Dr. Mullick, who has been delivering babies at Lawrence General and Holy Family Hospitals in the Merrimack Valley for nearly 20 years…Dr. Mullick will close her practice this year.
    In Mississippi:
Limitless liability negatively affects access to health care. According to the Mississippi State Medical Society, 90 percent of the obstetricians in Mississippi and 75 percent of the general, orthopedic and emergency surgeons have been sued. Every single neurologist in Mississippi with more than ten years of experience has been sued. As a result, few Mississippi towns under 20,000 residents have a physician who will deliver babies.
    In Nevada:
The Associated Press reported on July 13, 2002, that Nevada's only top-level trauma center, the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, reopened 10 days after it shut down because of soaring malpractice insurance rates. "The county-run trauma center closed July 3 after all but one of the medical center's 58 orthopedic doctors resigned because they said they couldn't afford rising malpractice insurance premiums. Physicians say some medical malpractice insurance premiums have jumped from $40,000 to $200,000 annually.
    In Florida:
SANFORD - Unable to pay soaring malpractice insurance rates, four emergency room surgeons suspended their practices. The surgeons, all associated with Central Florida Regional Hospital, were informed by their carriers that premiums, to be paid up front and in cash, would quadruple to about $600,000 for the year.

The EBAY thingy is now displaying "Atlantic City" "stuff".
I'm putting the MISS AMERICA sales on the other page-*note on the Miss A. stuff. I went to EBAY and did a search on "Miss America" "completed items", Items that were displayed here as ending soon sometimes appear as if they don't have any bids or not a very high bid. Looking at the completed items though, most of the items do sell and some ended up have little bidding wars at (literally)-the last minute.
I also have a companion Ebay ticker on my LOCAL NEWS from around the Globe,News Bureau© page, that ticker lists current EBAY auctions for event, concert tickets.
And,yes,I am an ebay affilliate, but although my account registers thousands of "views",I am not counting on getting a check from Ebay! I put those things up more for the interesting new content.
If everyone HATES the ebay thing at the top and/or-it is making the page too slow to load,I can move it to a dif. page.-let me know!

I had tea at the Sweet Magnolia in Margate today. For $8.95 (plus tax) you get a pot of your choice of tea, two scones, clotted cream and some kind of custurd to put on the scones. What you are paying for is the atmosphere. It's a nice quiet place to go to relax without having to order a big meal. For $18.95 I could have gotten tea and some kind of sandwhiches. • Slot Machines at Meadowlands? -- talkonline, 19:49:51 11/18/02 Mon
    (I'll post my refrence asap)
Here's what happened in the Senate meeting RE:Slots at the racetrack.

After Senator Gormley was welcomed to the State Agriculture,Tourism and ??? Committee, (I think GORMELY voted "yes" on the veal question?????

...At the very very end of the meeting the SLOT issue came up. The commitee chairman said that they "...were here to take testimony...not going to be able to handle it in the short time period that we have today..." then, one of the sponsors of the bill, Senator Suiliaga (sp?) had a somewhat mysterious statement. He said that he "...recieved information from the treasuer"...(of the state of New Jersey)...which...innovative approah to bringing in additional revenue to the State of New Jersey and also helping our casinos be competitive and helping the horse industry.............."

Then the Chairman and Senator Suiliga (sp?) discussed briefly wether Suiliga should give an "overview of the bill" with the Chairman stateing that the discussion should be "held" due to "...additional information.....(that the bill would be )...re-crafted in a way that could satisfy all intrests...best way to approach it."

The bill is being held and I think that the chairman invited Senator Gormley & Suiliga to join him in Atlantic City this weekend for dinner at MacDonald's.

I am currently slogging through a Patricia Cornwall book. Something "dog"???-It's the first book of her's that I've read that doesn't have character Dr. Kay Scarpetta.-(all that juciy stuff about Quantico and forensics etc.)-Well-the one I'm reading, very choppy, very easy to put down and loose track of the story-my Mom said that she doesn't even think that Cornwall wrote this "dog-whatever" book and I have my doubts also.

Yeah-I'm going to give her another chance, great interview and I'm dying to know who-done it!

Did you hear the joke that Don Williams told this morning? In case you didn't, this is how it went...There were 3 gentlemen in a hot tub together...An Asian man an Irish man and another type of man, I forget what he was...The Asian man touches his wrist and says that he has a computer chip embedded under his skin and he uses it like a telephone, or something like that. The other gentleman touches his forehead and says that he has a computer chip in his head and that he just received an email...The Irishman, not to be outdone goes to the bathroom and comes back with some toilet paper hanging out his butt and says, "I just got a fax!"

So I'm making Fried Cauliflower. Thanks to RICH for mentioning this on THE FRONT PORCH last year during the holiday season. I had forgotten how delicious it is.

I bought 2 heads of fresh cauliflower @ SHOP-RITE .99 (they are small).

I'm boiling them in a big pot so that I can cut small pieces. (but not too long or they will get mushy).

Then,I'll rinse the heads in cold water or wait for them to cool.

After I cut the pieces,I'll dip in some beaten eggs and bread crumbs*.

I'm going to put some oil in the big pot that I used to boil the cauliflower. Heat that up 'till HELLS-A-POPPIN'-('till drops of water flung into the hot oil POP! and splatter),and fry them,Then I'll remove them just before they start to burn.

And put them on a ripped-open brown paper bag and apply salt.

*I'm trying something NEW-"hot and spicy" flavor bread crumbs.

WoW-I put up the SITE METER one year ago today. Below are the one year "stats", as you can see,we have had many visits this year! The "page views" (the big number) are what would be displayed on an ordinary counter. The "visits" count should be more realistic? and only count a "visitor" once per day,or while that visitor's computer is logged on and off again.(so I should only be counted for 365 of the "hits" on the meter that shows on the top of the page.-but since my Comcast cable modem is "always on"-I'm not really sure?

THANK-YOU TO EVERYONE FOR VISITING!AND BIG BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO LEAVES A MESSAGE!

Oh yeah, the SITE METER popped up shortly after the one year anniversery of the message board's founding.

EXTRA special thanks to "charter member" RICH from BRIGANTINE who was the first person to check out the original board and who pops in every now and then. Found this in my inbox:(author unknown)

Friend, When you are sad, ...I will get you drunk and
help you plot revenge against the bastard who made you
    sad.

When you are blue, ...I'll try to dislodge whatever is
    choking you.

When you smile, ...I'll know you finally got some.

When you are scared, ...I will tease you about it
    every chance I get.

When you are worried, ...I will tell you horrible
stories about how much worse it could be and to quit
    whining.

When you are confused, ...I will use little words to
explain it to your dumb ass.

When you are sick, ...stay away from me until you're
well again. I don't want what you've got.

When you fall, ...I will try to keep from laughing.

This is my oath, I pledge 'til the end. Why you ask?
    Because you're my friend.

Send this to 10 of your closest friends then get
depressed because you realize you only have 2, and one
of them is not speaking to you right now.

And always remember: A friend will help you move. A

    SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ
    545 AM EST FRI NOV 15 2002

...A NORTHEASTER IS EXPECTED THIS WEEKEND...

LOW PRESSURE IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP ALONG THE SOUTHEAST COAST ON
SATURDAY. THE LOW SHOULD THEN MOVE UP THE EASTERN SEABOARD ON
SUNDAY. MEANWHILE...STRONG HIGH PRESSURE IS EXPECTED TO BUILD
    ACROSS EASTERN CANADA.

THE AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL LIKELY BRING RAIN TO OUR REGION
BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT AND CONTINUING INTO SUNDAY. THE RAIN MAY BE
HEAVY AT TIMES ESPECIALLY ON SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT. RAINFALL
TOTALS THIS WEEKEND COULD RANGE FROM ONE TO TWO INCHES AT MANY
LOCATIONS. THAT AMOUNT OF RAIN MAY RESULT IN SOME FLOODING IN AREAS
OF POOR DRAINAGE AND ALONG SMALL STREAMS.

FROM LATE SATURDAY INTO SATURDAY NIGHT ENOUGH COLD AIR MIGHT WORK
ITS WAY INTO THE POCONOS...THE LEHIGH VALLEY...AND NORTHWESTERN NEW
JERSEY TO CAUSE THE RAIN TO MIX WITH SLEET AT TIMES. HOWEVER...AT
PRESENT IS APPEARS AS THOUGH ANY SLEET ACCUMULATION WOULD BE MINIMAL.

ALONG THE COAST...GALE FORCE WINDS FROM THE NORTHEAST ARE
ANTICIPATED FOR SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY. THE STRONG WINDS WILL LIKELY
PRODUCE SEAS UP TO 8 TO 12 FEET ALONG WITH HEAVY SURF AND POSSIBLY
SOME BEACH EROSION. THERE IS ALSO THE POTENTIAL FOR MINOR TIDAL
    FLOODING.

THE STORM WILL PULL AWAY TOWARD CANADA/S MARITIME PROVINCES ON
    SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY.

He is talking about a plan to direct what he calls "white middle class" families into the city. Is this the new "white trash?" He doesn't want white people to move in and change the complexion of the black neighborhoods.

Wow! Imagine the outrage if the mayor of Longport said he didn't want black people moving in and turning it into a dumping ground.

The sad thing is, I live in Atlantic City. I guess I'm White Trash. I own my home. I have 2 jobs. I pay extremely high taxes. But, I guess I should be thankful that Langford hasn't noticed me here amongst the chosen people or else he might just put me out at the curb.

  • Flipping Vacation Day Policy is great!! -- No name, 22:47:37 11/11/02 Mon
The new policy for police officers and their "extra retirement pay" vacation days is great! I know of at least one person who walked away with a few hundred thousand dollars worth of vacation pay that was "not used." I really find it hard to believe that in a job so stressful and emotional that police officers do not take off the time they are entitled to or do they exhaust their sick days first even if they are not sick? I read about this on Harry's site and he said that he will get the list of those cops who have large amounts of unused vacation days; I cannot wait to see it. I hope that people like the ones who write on this site will know some of these cops and realize that when they are off and at home, they are not "sick" but rather using sick days as vacation days!

1 WIN for the taxpayers! YEAH!
