Good Point Rujane, except that I am not sure if THAT site is actually resp.???? "Internet Washer" is a particularily nasty sucker, it already had personl info. (my private email @ Comcast), filled in on the screen.

That is why I wanted to know if it happened to anyone else??? If it did then I could be a little more sure that it is the page that is "doing" it????

It happened to my home PC while my wife was surfing for free clipart. She is into the so called fluff (clipart, themes, wallpaper, cursors, etc.) and now IE will not connect to any URL. The homepage was changed to xupiter.com and when you reboot the PC it wants to continue some installation of "Internet Washer". Basically you need to ctrl+alt+del to end task on this crap. She is unsure of what website it was and it could have been an automatic redirection or something. I'm sure she was tricked by clicking a "X" to close. Those B*st*rds! Maybe I should just buy the crap and become the most annoying, time consuming customer they have ever had!

My two cents!

[> [> [> Re: Uninvited Guests-SPYBOT SEARCH AND DETROY -- talkonline, 19:51:15 03/26/03 Wed

"it" stopped for awhile, but now the INTERNET WASHER trys to install itself at least once a day. As far as Xuipiter (sp?), I finnally got rid of it by downloading SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY (FREE VERSION!)...I think there is a link on www.komando.com or you can "Google" it. BUT-it (xuipiter),and GATOR, and some other nasty stuff... DID come back (over and over)!...........

The bad thing about spybot search and destroy, is that there AREN'T ANY INSTRUCTIONS!. What I did was, download it. and click the Spybot search and destroy, then there what looks like a mostly blank page,at the bottom I clicked on to something like "perform search".

YOU WILL BE AMAZED!!!!!!! there is another button that says (something like) "fix selected programs". ALL of the items that have a CHECK MARK will be removed. Don't worry 'cause you can "restore" should you remove something that you need. The first few times that I ran the SPYBOT,I UNCHECKED a few things that I wasn't sure about. BELIEVE ME!-There will be enough OBVIOUS INTRUDERS, that you shoud be able to get rid of a lot of GARBAGE even if you don't choose to remove all of the reccomended items.

I even got a little crazy and went to the REG-(the registry files),and it wasn't as "dangerous" as some people say when they say stuff like "don't ever touch the registry", the xuipiter and gator crap that was sitting on my harddrive was pretty obvious, and I deleted it from that too.

(if you guys like this one I will tell you about the cute little scotty dog that barks every time that I get a new cookie and alerts me when a new (UNINTENDED!) program tries to install.)
