Subject: Plagerisim report

Sorry to say that I have (once again) spotted LOCAL online plagerisim. An item titled "severe earthquake in France",was posted on a LOCAL website w/out mentioning the source or author or even "author unknown". I would say that this would be plagerisim because the way it is presented, implies that the person whose name is on the page is the author (they are not. The item is all over the www.),"author unknown" or some other indication that the item is NOT original would seem appropriate to me.A href="http://www.strangecosmos.com/read.adp?joke_id=4138">click here for another version of the "earhquake in france" article.

I don't know if it's plagiarism, but what would make it that would be if the article were copied word for word. The writer does have ownership of how he expresses information. The fact that both pieces are about an earthquake in France is not really infringement, since facts cannot be copyrighted. Neither can titles, except under limited circumstances, but it is always more professional to come up with your own. (Though again, these are often changed by editors).
Plagiarism/infringement seem to be big problems when information moves from web site to web site. I think it's like kids and the music downloading - they think if it's there, it's theirs.

It was an internet e-mail type thing (widely circulated online). The person who put it on their website did not give any credit and their name was on the page. I can't say that the person was trying to imply that they had written the material, but some people would think that. (since there is no mention of where the material came from).
