Subject: BSF Time Standards/ Nationals Date

First I would like to congradulate all of the swimmers who have been swimming well so far this swim season and may you continue to do so. I have been very much involved with swimming from the outside looking in for many years, and I must say this Federation has had its better days.
As I reviewed the BSF Time Standards, I grew very confused and puzzled. I thought the goal of the BSF was to set attainable time standards for the swimmers to strive for. Yes the BSF is on the right track with the Girls times but as far as the boys go, no. I know the BSF would like to send as many people as possible to Pan Ams for experience and to get the swimmeres out there, but it is very obvious that the girls are being favoured alot more than the boys. For example, why is it that the Commonwealth times for the girls SECONDS slower than the Pan Ams times ????? But the Boys Pan Ams times are faster than the Commonwealth ? HOW is it possible that the girls CAC times almost mirror the Pan Ams times ? But the Boys Pan Ams times are faster than the Commonwealth ? HOW is it possible that the girls CAC times almost mirror the Pan Ams times ? Is it the BSF's goal to send a FULL team of girls along with Jeremey ? I know the girls have been improving alot over the years, but to make times so simple for them to make defeats the purpose. This is the reason why most male swimmers discontinue swimming after the Carifta age. One can count on one hand the amount of boys still swimming over 17....Travano McPhee, Inoa Charlton, Ashton Knowles , and the list stops there. The whole point of this letter is to alert the BSF that the people are not stupid and there is a problem with the times that you set. If you go on any other countries website ( links can be found on the bsf website ) you can see that the times vary drastically and its ridiculous. Some of the Pan Ams times for the girls are CARIFTA times for other countries but our males times are JUST shy of our olympic cuts. The BSF made the male times so that if one makes the times they will make finals or possibly medal. But the girls times are NOT made so and this is not fair. This meet should be used for the swimmers to gain experience and to compete on different levels.
