Subject: Re: Time Standards

Outside source brought some very startling facts to my attention and hopefully to those of the BSF. We all agree that our girls are much stronger in scoring than our males have been in the past, but does that mean we should completely shut them out? Why not do the opposite, focus on the boys to bring them up and maybe they will enjoy swimming, join or continue swimming. This federation has been depleting our male numbers especially senior wise. Is Chris still swimming, I see he qualified in one race for Pan Ams; he is the last backstroking male in the country. And Ashton has been considering retirement due to outrageous time standards, Inoa has been shut out of meets he rightfully earned a place on CAC(not the BSF's fault) carifta 05 (BSF's fault). And Travano and his shoulder are in our prayers, and I am sure his injury was to blame for his performance at CAC. But do we have any younger swimmers coming up? Vereance is our best hope to develop into a senior swimmer, and John Bradley Jr has great potential for developing into a decent distance freestyler. So far, that’s only two, and I don’t believe we are showing our younger athletes, especially males, enough support to stay into the sport. Carifta 07 is John’s first year in 15-17 and Vereance’s last year. I also notice that Vereance is developing into a decent butterflyer and has a world championship time but is being cut out of Pan Am’s. I believe these swimmers are being shut out because a certain somebody is afraid that they are getting closer to beating Jeremy, even though Inoa and Vereance both specialize in races Jeremy does not. Seems selfish to me. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vereance is shut out of going to World Champs and Inoa not being selected for other meets.. Both of these swimmers are away in school, are we keeping in contact with them? Are we calling them and letting them know we support them, are we watching their meets and calling them to congratulate them on their performances? No we aren’t. Another question, are these swimmers on any type of financial aid, or is that only available to the females and Jeremy? After this Carifta, I fear for the young men left, Jevaughn, Denaj, and Barrington, what happened to our boys of 2004? There is a huge gap in male swimming. There is Jeremy, Travano, Inoa, Vereance, John, and then it shoots down to Evante and Matthew who are doing quite well. This federation started off on the right foot but has grown biased and forgot their true mission for our youth athletes. By unbalanced and outrageous time standards, it’s obviously the girls are getting the royals treatments. Why not be fair and balanced and give our young men a chance. The glory of a girl’s Olympic relay has blinded us from what we truly stand for.
