Subject: Why do some dancers in prizewinner do not compete in Traditional Set? Do their schools not count it if you get a first to move up? Does Traditional set counts as a prizewinner first? Just asking...

[> Subject: Trad Set doesn't count for anything when it comes to moving up. Some dancers stop doing it once they have a first in it. Dd always did it as it was good practice for the NEO. Until she moved to prelim and then she did solos. Seems kind of short-sighted not to compete in trad set at feises if you'll be doing it at the O.

[> Subject: I think any dancer wanting to move should be required to get a first in a soft shoe or tj and hornpipe.. those are the dances you compete in in PC .. you are not ready to move unless you have this minimum..

[> [> Subject: Well of course. The very minimum requirement for moving to prelim is to have earned at least one first in eitehr Reel or Slip Jig plus at least one first in Treble Jig or Hornpipe. Can't move up otherwise.

[> [> [> [> Subject: It's never been the case. My dd would have been done with PW in 6 months if TS counted. But it doesn't and I doubt it ever will, so practice your TJ and HP steps if you want to move up. If you think about it one 1st in PW reel or sj and one 1st in PW hp or tj is not a tough requirement to meet. If you can't get those are you are definitely not ready for prelim. That's why many schools require you to get 2 firsts in each of the 4 core PW dances before you can move up.

We always sign up when at the same time as the other dances.
