We're in eastern MA, and Hartford is an hour and a half drive for us. (Providence is 45 minutes.) We drive further for some feiseanna! Our TC is asking dancers on teams to get a room for Saturday night so that they can be 100% sure that all team members will be there Sunday morning, but unless a trad set comp is early in the day, you could easily get up at 5:30 or 6 and be there in time for a 9:00 competition.

Northern New England doesn't have the numbers that the Boston area and CT do. As far as I know, while there are several schools in NH, Stillson is the only school in Maine (and a very serious/high level school at that), and McFadden is the only school in Vermont. Even if some of their TS dancers bow out due to the distance, I think this will be more than made up for by the number of dancers in CT and western MA who may have felt that Providence was too far for a day trip and not worth a hotel room for TS.

[> Subject: First O was part of a team. Didn't get a room because we're "only" 40 minutes away. It was terrible! We like to be there to practice, for friends, etc. Always got a room after that and never thought about not going because it was the O and she works hard all year. We have been incredibly lucky it's only ever been in PVD for us. Not sure what this year will bring but got a room. It's the O!

the next group of moms in. The Island itself could not hold all the people, never mind the ballrooms. Cambridge would be second worst with a prominent dancer falling in hole in floor during practice and breaking his ankle; not being allowed in ballrooms for awards and almost missing daughter's podium placement. Stamford was great venue but just so far away. Loved Providence. Will hold judgment on Hartford until after the experience.

[> Subject: Hartford is much more central to NE than Stamford was. We are 2 hours from Providence and I always got 3 nights because my solo dancer was on Friday and her team was Sunday. We expect to pay for a hote. Not practical for us to commute for a 7:30 check in time.
