Date Posted: 14:41:57 01/21/20 Tue Trying to decide if the 28th dancer is better or worse than the 2nd dancer or the 9th dancers or the 15th dancer when there is no way to remember them other than a number, is unrealistic. Scores between the three judges on a panel range way more than in regular costumes because it's so hard to keep track. At least with costumes, you can remember the blue and yellow dancer, or the one with the shamrock, or the one whose shawl buckled, or the tall one in purple, or the cupcake skirt or the sweetheart bodice or the striped sleeves. Saying it's bad judging if the judges can't figure it out is unrealistic as well. How about when all three dances on stage in black outfits are dancing facing the back and one messes up or does something to warrant a deduction. Whose who? They have to turn around for the judge to see the numbers to know who to drop. If they had regular costumes, you'd know to drop the red/white one or the bright pink one or the rainbow one, and confirm their number when they turn around. Blackout also causes anxiety for bigger girls or girls with larger chests, some of whom have to wear 4-5 sports bras which may keep things in place but hurt like hell. True, there is bias based on solo costume (modern style, school identifiers) but everyone the same may reduce the bias but increase judging error, making results similarly off. Is that really better? [> [> [> Subject: Judges are quite capable of keeping track of the dancers via their competitor #s. I prefer a blackout feis because dancers with arm and carriage issues can't hide them. It makes the competition fairer. | |
