With the cost of the sport so high I think it is time to retire.. new dress ordered never used can sell because nobody needs one... my daughter is in prelim goes to class and practices for what.. NO school feis like some schools have arranged can travel out of state for a feis because of covid .. and she is a junior in high school her chance to make it to open is slipping away with college around the corner.. the region has failed us we not at Least finding away for some type of feis . Why not grades one day champs the next one parent eAch can watch spread out or outside this fall. A lot of schools depend on the income from the feis they run.. Going to dance class for over a year with no competition no longer makes this a sport... yet sports like hockey have games and tournaments in MA or NH . Forget Nationals or Worlds until there is a vaccine.. people will not be allowed to travel abroad not to mention the cost of traveling g covid tests or quarantine . We need to keep this generation liking the sport and enjoy it not just going to class and doing it at home

Aside from that, ID is about more than competing. Were you thinking about competing when you first signed her up for dance? Probably not, because most of us weren't. We signed our children up to dance because dancing is fun, it's fun to watch, it's a great way to make friends and it's good exercise. There are plenty of dancers who don't compete because they simply don't enjoy the hassle and stress of it. They dancer for the joy of it and the beautiful friendships they have made along the way. We have a young friend who made it to PC and never placed, not even once in two years of frequent feising. She practiced, but like so many, dances off time and can't seem to overcome this. She knew each feis that she would probably not place, but it was fun just trying. Then she realized she had just as much fun simply going to class and it was a heck of a lot cheaper for her single mother. She is 20 now and has just been going to class for the past three years. As far as OC, if your dancer is working hard and appears to be dancing at that level, her teacher can move her up. Most years this would be discouraged, but this isn't like most years. But at the end of the day, ask your daughter if she is still enjoying class. If so, please let her continue. If not, it really is time to retire. Dance is supposed to be fun.

It’s the one level where there is no TC discretion allowed. Dancers have to win their way into open. I feel for the prelim dancers who have worked so hard, especially the older ones :(
