The Irish dance world is a small one no matter where you’re relocating to.

Closing their school with no notice to children/families. You don't relocate without planning it ahead of time. I hope all the dancers find a tc/school with more compassion and concern for their welfare.

I can't believe what I am reading here! The Kenny Academy closing is absolutely a loss, for the region, for the kids, but it is also a huge loss for the Kennys. The letter on the 23rd being referred to here was not just a "sorry we're closed" note, it was long , detailed and very heart felt! Covid killed the Kenny Academy, it's that simple, and the families know that, they did not just up and decide to relocate. Please try to remember that you are slamming two people who have lost their business, income and home , and now it seems as a result of idle gossip, their reputation!

You are correct that they didn't just up and decide to leave. Businesses don't go under overnight and people don't relocate overnight. This decision had to have been in the works for quite some time, and the families should not have been blindsided.

Business do go under overnight, all the time! If you have never been through it then good for you but I have, it's shocking and terrible and nobody wins. Also remember that classes are on summer break so it's understandable that people didn't get to say goodby , and you are assuming that they have already left Boston, which to the best of my knowledge is not the case, so the relocation has not been overnight. They worked to come up with a solution to keep the school open while they got back on their feet and it was rejected. Telling people they should be ashamed of themselves is a ridiculous thing to say to people who have just lost everything! Kindness is free, ya know!

The email was very detailed and heartfelt, and they didn't even owe that. Think about the Kennys for 2 seconds instead. They are human beings who suffered a huge financial loss from Covid. How many businesses have gone under? A lot! They had a solution, instead they got backlash. Probably backlash from the "strong willed" parents who always have demands and feel they are owed. Rumors are rumors. Please, be kind.

They were not forthcoming with info

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: On 7/16, we got an email saying Billy Petrocelli had passed his TCRG and could teach w/o the Kennys present. On 7/23 we got an email saying the school closed. They said they'd hoped to have Billy and Breda teach and that the Kennys would be relocating but would take turns teaching part-time, but that responses to the announcement re Billy indicated that plan wouldn't be accepted. That was confusing. We had no idea what was going on. Why would we choose a ban and sudden abandonment of our kids?

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: "The parents thought they could say no." It's almost as if parents--who are paying for a service--should be so bold as to assume they might have any say in the service they are paying for. Imagine that! If I were paying for my dancer to attend a school with a particular TC and then was told, "guess what, it is now going to be a different TC," I might also "think I could say no."

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: Businesses hire new staff all the time. Why is this any different? Why are they under a microscope? Breda has always been on staff, and the students were going to be so lucky to have 4 wonderful teachers instead of 3. The only plan was to add a new teacher and parents flipped out and gave them abuse. This is Irish Dance, a wonderful sport, but parents need to take a step back, take a deep breath.

The school is out for summer, so no in person opportunity, and they first offered a solution, which again was rejected! Have you ever been in extreme financial difficulty? I have and let me tell you every day you get up hoping that today is the day that things will turn around, you hold out until the very end!! It's also frightening and disorientating and a huge loss of dignity! You seem to be suggesting that they should have had no privacy! The reality is that its very difficult to run a school without a roof over your head, and it really makes me sad that that has to be said.

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Subject: They did NOT offer a solution. That is the key point. The first email said Billy would be teaching as a TCRG, and a few days later, they closed the school. I don't know why people are acting as if it was communicated that the school might close and there was some offer rejected. That is completely inaccurate. There was poor communication that resulted in children hurting.

I also think some children (and adult dancers) are sad, but it's the parents that are reacting the most. The Kennys are such nice people.
