In reply to: Dancer from Ireland 's message, "Thanks! I'm hoping to move to the Cambridge area" on 15:28:51 10/10/22 Mon

Your best options geographically would be Goulding, O’Dwyer, O’Shea Chaplin, and Sullivan. You could get to their classes on public transit and they’re close enough to Cambridge that driving wouldn’t be a nightmare. I’m assuming since you’re moving countries and working towards your TCRG you are at least 18. Goulding has historically had dancers who continue past high school and it’s always seemed to be a nurturing environment. O’Dwyer had a college student at worlds this year so they’ve certainly had older dancers as well. O’Shea Chaplin is a name that comes up time and time again when older dancers are seeking advice on schools in this area. They seem to have a mix of their own kids sticking around, older transfers, and college kids from other schools who practice with them. Sullivan is a lovely school but they don’t seem to have many seniors.

One additional recommendation - if you’re planning to take public transit, Forbes may be worth reaching out to. I wouldn’t recommend them if you’ll be driving because of traffic in that direction. I should also note it would be a decent ride on the red line. They have a few older dancers.

My advice is to email teachers explaining what you’re looking for, in my experience of switching schools teachers around here have been very open about what they can and can not offer and it was helpful in finding the right fit. You also may want to reach out to dancers from the schools you look at on social media, oftentimes they’re happy to discuss their experiences. If I were in your position, I’d focus my search on Goulding & O’Shea Chaplin based on proximity, age of students, family-like environment, being top tier schools in the region, and their size/number of locations meaning they’re more likely to welcome additional teaching help.

Best of luck and welcome to Boston!

Thank you so much for this kind response! I had heard of Goulding and O'Shea Chaplin before from competitions but wanted to make sure I was getting the full scope before reaching out to anyone. I will definitely be taking your advice on board!! Thanks :)
