Date Posted: 01:05:39 11/12/09 Thu

Registration is open for the 2010 Feis in the Desert, themed “The Heat is On!” This year our event weekend falls on the 3-day Martin Luther King Holiday: Friday, Saturday and Sunday, January 15, 16 & 17, 2010 - plenty of time to travel and great airfares now! We will again be at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort, Chandler, Arizona. This is a wonderful time of year in Arizona - come in out of the snow and cold, visit relatives, and bask under our sunny skies. Please visit our website, www.feisinthedesert.org – start with our Welcome Letter, then register for competitions and hotel accommodations through the website. All contact information for the Feis Committee is on the website. The schedule of events is up, along with information on our Special Events. Join us Friday evening for a Wine and Cheese Reception and stay to enjoy Irish Entertainment, featuring an “Irish Idol” contest - with the audience as judge! Back by popular demand is the C.E.R.F. (Firemen’s Relief Fund) Double Jig Competition to be held not once but twice! – open to all ages/all levels on Saturday and Sunday – enter for one or both! Everyone comes away with a gift from the Chandler Firefighters! The “Ducts on Parade” Duct Tape competition entries may be turned in both days - the criteria are challenging, Duct Tape Flip Flops? We also return with our Irish Baking Competition. Our event will be incorporated into the City of Chandler’s Multi-Cultural Festival for Saturday, January 16th - lots of extra activities! Our Feis Committee will make every effort to ensure an enjoyable Feis weekend. We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you in January 2010!

Noah Scott Biorkman is 5 years old and a patient at Mott Children’s Hospital, was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma. He has been fighting his cancer for the last 2.5 years but will lose his battle here before Christmas. When his family asked him what his Christmas wish was, he only responded that he wanted to receive a lot of Christmas cards. Because he is not expected to live until Christmas, the family is holding his Christmas next weekend and is asking as many of us as possible to help fulfill his wish by sending him Christmas cards.

The dining options in Providence, and particularly downtown where the O is, are ENDLESS. Next door to the Westin(literally) is Union Station. There is U.S. Brewery, Capital Grille(pricey) and RiRa(Irish Pub). Two other Irish pubs in walking dist. are McFaddens(Pine sT) and Murphy's(Fountain st./Open till 2am fri/sat). Ruth'sChris steak house across street, but quite expensive...
In PPMall, there is Chscke.F, Johnny r,Joe's am.bar+grill,DandB's, FireandIce, NapaValley Grille, ChicagoUno, and a CINEMA 16 + IMAX...( ONLY recommend the girls have adult with them there) Lot of college/HS age kids hang out on weekend nights=trouble sometimes.
Across from DDcenter,is Trinity Brewhouse, and across Highway overpass is the famous Federal Hill area, with about 50 restaurants(mostly Italian). It is known only as the HILL around here. There are some fancy options such as Mediterraneo, Blue Grotto,Siena, but also some reasonable pasta/pizza rest. such as Geppetto's, Angelo's,Caserta Pizza. The options are really endless. You should be eating well that weekend...ENJOY

I just noticed that the Providence Bruins are playing the Friday and Saturday night of the Oireachtas weekend. This is a great take. Might be a great way for the dads or nondancing siblings to get away and relax! They play at the Dunkin Donuts center right across the street. They are like minor league baseball, great entertainment at a reasonable rate!

Just wondering if anyone is interested in some items from my cafepress shop.

I searched the web and couldn't find the exact thing I wanted, so just spent hours creating my own artwork... it's on t-shirts, sweatshirts, sigg waterbottles(!), clocks for the studio and more. Might make for nice holiday gifts for your daughters or dance teachers...??

Let me know what you think~(Do the colors work?)

The 2 piece design allows you easily short/lengthen the skirt by lifting at the shoulders. Save on expensive alterations!
Great for the fast growing dancer! $1,800

Hi everyone, I am doing college research on Irish immigration to the United States in the last twenty years. I am collecting data right now and have created an online survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=C8JgDls1EbymPIGYQuFQ3A_3d_3d If you immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland in the last twenty years I would greatly appreciate your taking my survey as it provides invaluable information for the study. As well I'd greatly appreciate it if you could pass this survey along to anyone else. Thank you.

Sorry if this has been beaten to death but just another small plea to please keep dancers home if sick. I am not prone to panic about the flu or other illnesses but it is getting kind of rampant. Last night 3 dancers showed up to my dds class who were quite clearly ill. Some were out of school that day, all had been out most of the week. Not only is this unfair to the others but the sick kids will end up even worse if they don't stay home and rest. I was very disappointed our TC did not address this with them but this also needs to be enforced at home. Please, please, let's keep the sick kids home. It's not about the Os, it's about being a responsible parent (and ideally, TC).
