If you are a prelim dancer and you qualify for worlds because others can not go due to conflict does the new rule that if you qualify for worlds and are in prelim you must compete as an open dancer moving forward regardless of firsts apply?

Subject: Are hard shoes supposed to hurt...?

Author:

Date Posted: 18:31:01 12/04/17 Mon

My daughter started hard shoes over the summer, and has never complained that they were uncomfortable until just recently. I guess now that she's gotten the steps, her teachers are now paying special attention to technique? In any case, they want her to work on keeping her heels much higher off the ground.

I can see why, because even to my inexperienced eyes it looks much fancier that way, but my daughter says it really hurts :( She doesn't usually complain about anything, and has never been bothered by the shoes until now, but she finds it more painful than she can take, to try to keep her heels up high off the floor.

Is this normal? She has asked some of the champion-level kids who help teach the class, and they say everyone feels like that, and that you get used to it. And they're so awesome in general, both as dancers and as teachers, that I'm 99% sure they're probably right... But I'm just worried that I'm letting her do herself some damage, if it hurts as much as she says it does.

I've emailed her teacher, too, but I'd really appreciate opinions from other moms, who surely must have asked themselves if it can really be ok for it to be so painful...?

Thanks for any advice!
