Mike and to anyone who has no insurance...I had to apply for SSI for the extreme depression caused by the hep, but could not use hep as the cause for the depression, I had to use hereditary manic depression to be covered (I was lucky that was in my family, who would have thought that would turn out to be luck)...It took me 3 years of appeals with SSI to finally be approved. But to increase the chances of getting SSI I had to go on adult assistance first. If you think I was depressed from the hep, that nearly threw me over the edge **lol**, the mountains of paper work was horrific, I finally had to get an advocate and lucky that I was referred to one who gave his assistance for two people per year free, he chose my case as one of them. He did win, my medical bills were paid up for those three years plus a settlement that paid off my mountain of other bills.

I am very grateful for SSI, as it has given me the gift of being able to rest mentally and physically...I will be going into treatment, without SSI it would not be possible. The bad news is I have the rarest type hep C that is infecting the US, by my user name you can see that. So they are saying recovery is maybe 10 to 20%. Who knows, the info is so mixed it is hard to get pertinent information in regards to a particular C type.

My biggest problem right now is an unsympathetic doctor, who attributes many of my ailments to getting old....since I am up this month to be reviewed for SSI I do not risk changing that situation.

I was has diagnosed in 2001. I has been on peg-interon and rebetol for 6 months, with good results. The side effects are horrendous. I am unable to work or drive, live alone, due to the side affects and can only just got medicaid for the RX. I can not pay even my rent. I have heard of some that have gotten SSI. How!! My incompetent Dr. says I have "flu like" symptoms. Even if I could work, Medicaid will not let you earn enough to even pay rent. Need suggestions and where to turn or else I will have to go off the treatment 6 months early.
