My daughter entered and won her state pageant. I was not excited about her entering but had friends who talked me in to letting her try. Now, looking back, I am SO glad she did. The skills she learned, including speaking in public, were skills that she will carry with her for life. I think it was a wonderful experience for her. She still is in touch with girls she met at Teen USA 2005. I was not a pageant mom and am still not, but I do realize the benefits of her reign. I will tell you that it is expensive. Not every state has good directors and if you are doinging it on your own as we did, then it can cost plenty. So if money is an issue, check to see if your state has a good director with a good prize package that will help cut down on the cost. Good luck to you!
