I'd like to think if this backfires we'd see them make an effort to put Miss Teen USA back on TV and give it the same consideration and exposure they give Miss USA/Universe. But I think if it fails, we'll just see the end of the system. I really wouldn't be surprised to see contestant levels at the teen level drop. With Miss America on very shaky ground, and now Miss Teen USA, I think this is the end of an era. Miss USA isn't exactly a ratings winner, and we should thank Miss Universe for keeping that on the air. Miss Teen USA is a well known and popular pageant under a big and well known organization, and if they marketed it right it could have all the exposure and opportunities that its two sister pageants have. But instead, they have always seems to ignore it and this effort makes me think its final nail in the coffin is being slowly driven in. They're trying to cut costs so they're burying it in with Miss USA. If I'm understanding you correctly on expanding the pageant to 3 weeks instead of 2, that might be difficult for not only the miss contestants, but also the teens to miss all that school. I'm sure costs for attending the teen pageant won't drop any, so the question is will people be willing to pay to attend two pageants? Attending one seems to be a budget buster. The only thing it may bring is exposure, but I don't think it's going to bring anymore opportunities for the teen titleholder and I don't think the exposure will do any good (and maybe I'm just understanding you wrong on the opportunities point). Miss Teen USA and the 51 delegates should have their chance to shine, just like Miss USA should have hers. IMO, this seems like it takes away the crowning glory of winning Miss Teen USA. The girls get some small, toned down few day event, the girl wins, and then just gets introduced at Miss USA. I think the teens are getting gyped. And what's wrong with having an elaborate production? That's what pageants are all about :-) Call me cheesy and traditional but I love the productions of the old days, the golden years of pageantry.
