Subject: the midland alan 42 multi cb handset

can anyone explain the following to me? firstly, what does pl stand for? Secondly there is a setting marked px which will only let me receive and has channels marked 1-40a-1 -40b and goes like this through to 1-40i and then jumps to 1-40L, on what frequencies am i receiving? Also i get the same on a setting comes up in the display as ru on these channels the receive can be switched from fm to am. There are also 24 fm only marked as sw on which the tx is disabled, on what frequencies am i receiving? can anyone help? Also why are only a couple of channels occupied by taxis on the cb and nowt else on Merseyside?
