Well it's all down to advertising isn't it !

They are more likely to sell a radio that can get "up to 8km" than a radio that can only get "up to 3km".

I could sell you my Motorola T6222 with a range of "Up To 500km" because I spoke to a station near Amsterdam on it a few years ago !!!!
