Hi everyone. I grew up in south regent (19 Regent St.)from 1961 (birth) to 1975. We kids used to go to the Gay theatre quite often, it was a way for our parents to get rid of us for the afternoon. I have fond memories of the Three Stooges festivals, the Elvis movies ("we want Elvis!, we want Elvis!), and just driving the husband and wife owners nuts over our noise and antics. They were both so miserable! They were made for each other! We used to sometimes refer to the theatre as "the rat patrol" and for good reason. One Saturday afternoon we went there to see a movie and I was wearing a brand new pair of rubber winter boots that my mom had just bought for me. Well, when we left the theatre, outside I noticed that there was a big hole that was chewed through the end of the boot! It had to have been a rat that did it. I'll never forget it.
I think around 1974, or so, the theatre had been sold and started running East Indian movies, so that was the end of going to the "Rat Patrol".
