Subject: Simply, irish dancing has both a ballet-like dance and a tap shoe like dance. There are both dances that you do alone (Solos) and dances you do as a group (ceili). The dancing is athletic, light, controlled and complex. Highland dancing seems to me to have less variation, most of the dancing is very similar from school to school, the variations are in how well you perform those specific steps. You use your arms more. Celtic dancing is what I think of as more folk style, more for fun and entertainment.
