Subject: Nickie died as I drove up the driveway

They usually run along side as I drive up. He was struggling. I parked and got Ian. We went down the field and Nickie had made it to the top, but went down as we approached the gate. I had Ian take Dixie and Blaze inside. (Chilili was crated inside.) By the time Ian got back, Nickie was dead.

We think he had a heart attack. Maybe that tumor on his chest infiltrated...although it does not feel like that sort of tumor.

I don't know. I've said I've envied you who have had you dogs pass away at home. I still think there can be no finer way to go. He was well and happy, he was playing and still had a stick in his mouth (need to check for an obstruction just to know, but he wasn't choking so it wasn't a stick), he was happy to see me home. Then a few moments of confusion where the body did not work right ...His brave heart and strong will taking him up to the gate where he died at my feet being told he was just the best dog ever.

(God, but I hate this year and am starting to hate this house.)
